It's Been Awhile, New Stuff

Robert Nunya — Posted on The MG Experience

I've done some things since I wrote my last entry.

About 3 months ago I put in a relay system (from Moss Motors) for the headlights, so I can use modern technology headlights. The process was super easy and works great. At the same time I put on new windshield wiper arms, they work pretty good, but the return springs are a little weak so I don't get super good pressure on the windows.

Put on a new exhaust system late summer early fall 2011.

Yesterday (2/28/12) with some help from RM (ok, so I watched him a lot, ha ha) we got the defroster working and installed the air flow tubes that I bought 3 or 4 years ago when I first got the car. I don't drive the car very much when it's winter, but when I do, this will help keep the cabin warm as well as keep the windshield defrosted.

Lats week put in a new gas tank. The old one had some rust and stuff break free inside, was choking the line where the fuel exist the tank. So I got a new one from Moss Motors, got it installed and everything is fine, back on the road!

Tachometer Is Working Now

Got the tachometer working with a friends help! Turns out I was missing a wire, back of gauge to negative lead on the ignition coil. Ran a new one, works just fine. I knew I was missing a wire, but couldn't figure out which one. My buddy is much better at reading wiring diagrams.

Who knew it would be so simple?

New Radiator

I was having some trouble with overheating, so after a new thermostat which didn't do any good, I replaced the radiator last night. After a 20 mile test drive the temperature was nice and stable, right in the middle. One more major part repaired/replaced!

Valve Seat Problems

Robert Nunya — Posted on The MG Experience
Wednesday December 30, 2009 8:26 AM
A few weeks ago was getting ready to go on an errand and when I started the car, there was a ticking/knocking sound. Quickly turned it off and after removing the head and troubleshooting with a friends help, we took the head off and discovered the exhaust valve seat on cylinder 4 was out of it's little spot.

So now I am taking it to the machine shop to have them reseat it, or put a new one in. Looks to be about $100

A Little More Work Done

Robert Nunya — Posted on The MG Experience

I got the carburetor taken all the way apart and cleaned in some carburetor cleaner, this made a tremendous different in idle, and responsiveness, as well as top speed. I got it up to 65 mph, and felt like there was more there. Not quite ready to go there until I get a lock washer on the steering wheel so it doesn't fly off at a bad time

I got parts ordered for 2 new handles to roll up/down the windows, new windshield wipers, and new demister tubes (they carry the heat to the vents), as well as a new top liner, which seals the top against the top of the window so rain can't come in.

I hope to get all that installed and done next week.
