Carb Issue Fixed

Me and my friend Scott got it figured out last night. Where the carb sits on the intake, there is a gasket. Well, on that gasket were the washers for the bolts. I had put the washers there so I wouldn't lose them. The carb had gotten tightened down with those washers on the gasket and not by the nut on the bolts, so there was no seal. Bottom line is, I guess you could say there was a major vacuum leak

Now the car is running mostly ok (slight misfire for some reason) and all seems as it should be!

Well, turns out we threw a bearing so I got the crank turned at the machine shop and the connecting rods rounded (if that's the right term), to make sure they're all perfectly round. While reassembling with Rob M., honed the cylinders, put all new gaskets in (of course), cleaned and painted the engine, put a new clutch and throw out bearing. All the good stuff.

So now I am finishing putting the the easy things back on the engine and hope to be done over the holiday weekend. The plan is to put the engine in the engine bay myself, we'll see how that goes. Once I get all that done, we should be ready to do a little driving. Last thing will be to tune the carb, need to find someone who knows how to do it, or get a book and learn myself.

Engine Almost Out

Due to the knocking sound that got bad when taking the midget to get the top put on, we determined the issue was a bad rod and/or bearings.

I've been pulling parts off the engine as time allows over the past few days, got everything ready except the drive shaft needs disconnected. I will get that done tonight and have the engine broken down over the weekend and evaluated for exactly whats wrong, and hopefully get the parts to the machine shop for retooling as necessary. Hopefully it doesn't take long to in the shop.

Rear Brakes Done, Moving On To Next Step

well, on Monday night Scott and I finished rebuilding the rear brakes and were able to get the car out on the road safely. There is a slight knock in the engine, not real sure what what this. So I need to get that taken care of, as well as a final tune up of the carburetor before it's road ready.

I ordered a new top for the car, and came in late last week so that is prepped to go in. I hope to get that done in the next week or two, we'll see how that goes.

I need to spend a few minutes on the gas tank, get it dropped and check the sending unit since the gas gauge isn't working. I also have a new neck and top to put on it, so that'll all get done in one shot. All in all I don't think this job will be too bad.

It really won't be long before the car is ready to be driven to work and around town, yay!

Clutch Works!

Two weeks ago we got the front brakes bled after completely rebuilding them, that went pretty smoothly. We ran into some issues with bleeding the clutch though. Last night we got that taken care of, put the rear of the car up on jack stands and put it in gear. Thankfully the clutch engaged and disengaged (tested 1, 2, and reverse) and it seems fine. I still need to change the fluid in the rear axle and the gearbox, but everything seems to be fine.

One step closer to hitting the road! yay!

Gauge Back In, Carb Problems

Robert Nunya — Posted on The MG Experience

The folks at Nisonger Instruments did a hell of a job rebuilding that oil pressure and water temperature gauge. It looks damn near brand new, I'm rather impressed with them. Got it mounted, ran the engine, verified it all worked.

While doing that, had some trouble getting the engine started, discovered the electric choke isn't working. So I'll have to spend some time working on that of all things.

Before putting the master brake cylinder back on, I want to replace the brake line that goes from the master brake cylinder to the little box so I have new nuts on the line since the old ones were about worn off.

Slowly but surely it's getting there!
