Bill Greenwood — Posted on The MG Experience

A small repair piece was fabricated to repair the forward bulkhead just ahead of the floor panel. The new floor panel will overlap this piece by about 1/2" just like original.

Inner Sill Repair

Bill Greenwood — Posted on The MG Experience
Friday March 27, 2009 8:01 PM
The inner sill was repaired by fabricating an L shaped section, this was trimmed to allow butt welding to the original good metal. The lower edge was plug welded to the freshly repaired lower rail.
Prior to welding, the inside of the inner sill was wire brushed & spray painted (to the extent possible)with some cold galvanizing paint.

A new piece was formed & Mig welded into place. The new metal was cut into 2 pieces for easier fitup.
A small step in the repair process but a big boost to momentum. I am feeling better about this project already.

Drivers Floor Rot Removal

Bill Greenwood — Posted on The MG Experience

The floor & inner sill were cut back to sound metal.
Part of the inner sill bottom rail was also corroded & had to be cut away. Fortunately, after removal of much debris in the box section under the floor, the box section itself was in extremely sound condition.

69 MGC GT Restoration Kick Off

Bill Greenwood — Posted on The MG Experience

Restoration commenced with the drivers floor, the foot well was severly corroded under the soundproofing material. The corrosion extended to the inner sill, the front bulkhead and to a lesser extent to the gearbox tunnel. This car had apparently sat for many years in a barn & the interior has been badly damaged by rodents of one kind or another. There is evidence of furry creatures everywhere you look in this car, under the dash, in the dash, on top of the radio. The box sections under the floor are full of a mixture of straw, soil & animal droppings.
It's going to take a while to get rid of the barn yard smell.
The 1st pic shows the corrosion lurking under the apparently sound (no pun intended) soundproofing.
