Dash Is Removed!

I hopped into dash removal. Other than the typical getting the nuts off in tight places, it wasn't too bad. Why I didn't just do this prior to sending the car to the bodyshop is beyond me. I expected it to be a much longer & harder process. I intend on replacing with a new dash & Dolphin gauges as they are an exact fit. Hope replacement isn't that bad. If any suggestions out there I'm always open minded. I'm getting ready to tape off the paint & have the wheel wells, trunk, & interior floorboards undercoated using a professional company to spray the pickup bed liner material. I know it goes on approx. 1/8" thick. Has anyone else tried this and like or not like doing the undercoating this way prior to me doing it which should be in a few weeks?

Be sure to save the metal backing from your dash...I threw mine away before realizing they don't sell them anymore.....had to pull another one from a junkyard. Now I keep everything til the new parts arrive..as not to screw up again.

1973 MGB The Project Begins!

I acquired a 1973 MGB from Wisconsin in June 2005. I was looking for a project and I found one. This car was actually in too good of shape for a complete restoration, but that's what I'm doing. The car had a shiny red/orange paint job that looked great from 15-20', but up close it looked like someone poured on the paint with lots of runs. The car had a conversion 2.8L engine & 700 RN automatic trans., which ran decent. The fenders have been flared out & they did a pretty decent job of that. This really does give the car a much wider appearance & pretty sporty. Being as picky as I can be & kept finding things I would rather have different, I just decided to do a full restoration which is in process. I didn't do a frame off restoration as didn't feel this was really necessary. I did take it down to a bare tub & sent it to the body & paint shop. They advised me doors were sagging too much & they had to have new hinges or refused to paint as would chip when the doors would close. New hinges are an expensive thing to do! But that's what I did. I will admit the new hinges work great, the doors probably work better than when original. I had the top lip on the fenders front & back ground out & welded smooth (as these are rust magnets). The rockers seams had been filled prior to purchase & we ground out the seams & welded. I had the door locks, reverse lights, rear side markers (which had been added aftermarket), & extra mirror holes which had been drilled fiberglass filled & smoothed. Also, I had the Sebring front & rear valance applied & seams filled & smoothed. After searching other vehicles for a correct red I liked, I chose the 2006 Ford pickup red which is also the same as the 2003 Mazda Miata red. Once my car had been repainted the color didn't look any different than the color I just painted. Good thing I liked the color OK. I received the car back 1 week before the GOBMC Car Show & I couldn't do a Boyd Cottington or American Chopper & have it ready looking better than everyone elses. I did get talked into putting it into the show with a under construction sign on it. I was surprised how many people were curious about it, because it is different, I guess. Today I decided since the dash is cracked in several places I would just replace with a brand new one instead of putting the dash cap back on. I'll discuss other mechanical changes in other entries. Brent
