A Few Weeks Later

OK. I have neglected the writing of the next entry for a couple of weeks because I got a little overwhelmed. Everywhere I looked somethings was not working, all wires were cracked and I could not do anything to move the project forward. What I realized is that I needed a professional eye on this. Luckily I have a buddy who his whole life spent as a mechanic and as a rally car driver.

Can I phone a friend please?!!!

About 4 hours after me and my friend spent on the car it was running really good. The engine sounded great. The Carburetor was sticking and wiring was all cracked and worked intermittently which made it more difficult to troubleshoot problems. Once we got the engine working I again regained some confidence and had the next few steps all figured out. This was 3 days ago. Here is what was done int he past 3 days.

The carburetor was removed taken apart and is now soaking in kerosine. A new rebuilt kit was ordered and will be installed the minute it arrives.

The interior along with the hood, trunk, top, upholstery, door panels and radio console have been removed, tagged and are on the shelf

Front Break system has been completely disassembled and break rotors are found to be in good condition, but because the car was sitting outside prior to my purchase they need to be turned/resurfaced. New front break system is on hand and as soon as the rotors are done will be installed.

A brand new fuel tank was installed and tested.

Next step I think will be the testing of clutch and components. Wish me luck

Bought It

OK. Hello everyone or anyone who will decide to read this journal. After a few years of searching for a Midget I have finally found one. I bought it from a really nice guy who do to home circumstances could no longer take up valuable garage space. I did buy the car for a little more money then the car is worth in its current state but the reason I did it was all the extra goodies that came with it. Apparently before making the decision to cell the previous owner bought or inherited a whole bunch of stuff that I can use to fix/enhance the car. Next post I will make a detailed list of everything I got.

after posting a message in the forum on this site I found incredibly nice people who responded right away and gave me lots of welcome and initial advise. so for that THANK YOU

SO HERE WE GO... There is a first time for everything and this is my first full restore. despite the initial plan to get the car running and then see whats up I decided to do a complete restore right away. There are a few reasons for that.

a. after careful evaluation of the car I realized that the car has spend some time ether submerged in water or being exposed to rain or snow for a prolonged period of time.

b. as it stand now it has no fuel tank, radiator, the wiring is bad, something is going on with the wheels and plenty of other stuff.

So rather then get frustrated by find the next broken thing I chose the road less traveled and will strip the whole car down, fix the body and then go one step at a time.

This will give me plenty of time to read those wonderfully entertaining manuals and restoration books I just ordered.

this is it

this is it.
