The GT Project (introduction)
Created on 2007-10-17 23:29:53
Bought the !970 MGBGT on the net. Car was located at 500 kms from home! A friend lent me it's nice truck (Dodge Ram 1500 4X4)and i rented a trailer to get there.
Car has been sitting in a heated garage for at least 15 years. It's previous owner has started to "undress" the car to restore it but other priorities took place and the car was never touched after.
So the state of the car is: all exterior trims and lights are off and in boxes. The interior is completely undone. All gauges and switches are in boxes. Engine, suspension, exhaust system are all in place. Parts missing are: radiator and support, front driver seat, all interior panels including the headliner. All the electrical wiring is in place but some wires have been cut.
State of the body: metal sheet all around appears to be in very nice shape and very straight. No rust outside wxcept in the vincinity of the lower part of the windshield.
Rocker panels and door openings are straight and unrusted except for a small bubbling on the lower rear part of the passenger door opening. Inside of wheel arches are solid and not rusty at all. Inside of trunk is also very good. Inside the passenger floor has 3 rust holes that could be repaired without having to resort to a new floor.. i hope! Driver side has been repaired with sheet metal but the repair is obvious and maybe i will get a new floor pan on this side... we'll see!
Conclusion: very glad about the general state of the car! Was fearing some surprises but generally the car is in much better shape than what i was hoping for... but i know surprises will come...
