Sending out insurance request this week. Got rejected from Hagerety. Trying a company in Cherry Hill, NJ. Then its down to the DMV for registration. Then going to roll the car down the hill to my local service station to see what's what with car. I was told it has a fuel leak. Sure it will need some other serviceing. Hopefully not too much. With a lot of luck, I could be on the road by Holloween.

Got my first MG today, a 1974 Midget. I'm very happy. Needs some work to make it road worthy.

The Hunt For MG Midget

Augest 9, 2006: I have been trying to find a rust free CB MG Midget for the last couple of months. I'm getting very fustrated. The search is much harder then I imagined. But I'm still determined.

I guess I should explain how I got to this point. About 3 yrs ago, I stopped drinking and started looking for new hobbies. I started reading car magazines. I found a book about "Bubble Cars" which were tiny micro cars that flooded the the Eruopean market after WWII. I thought "wouldn't it be great to drive around in one of these!?"

Soon afterwards I "discovered" the Mini a more practical version of the bubble car. When or how I first saw one I can't remember. But I decided I must have one of these cars. They were cute, sporty, and British!

Unfortunetly, quite a few other people must have had the same idea as me. The new MINI had just come out and the classic model was all the rage. In fact, several years later, you still can't get your hands on one for less then $6500. (Down South maybe a little less, but not by much.) Way out of my budget. And a bit silly to pay so much for car that was made for the average "working man."

While I was reading car magazines and dreaming of Minis I started to learn about some of the other affortable classic cars out there. I also remembered seeing this little sports car I used to see parked on a Cape Cod beach all the time when I lived there: It was an orange convertable; very small, but very cool. It had word the "Midget" stamped on the side.

I learned from the car magazines that this "Midget" car was one of the most affordable classics out there. It was fun to drive. Had a simple engine design. And it was British!

This was the car I had always wanted but did not know it!

But I had no money at this point. Wasn't really working.

Fast forward another 2 years, and I'm now finally a sirus buyer with $3200 to spend. I found a bunch of websites that list classic cars for sale. I bought some repair manuals for the Midget. I've learned more about cars in the last few months then I have in the last two years. It basically comes down to three things. Rust. Rust. And rust! Everything else is managable. But unless I want to take a crash coarse in welding, I'd do best to stear away from rusty cars. (I actually did learn how to do a little welding when I was a kid.)

A 1965 I looked at last month, too much rust, had to walk away.
