An Bhfuil Eireannaché?
Created on 2008-07-04 17:21:38
Painting is just about finished! After painting it all cream, I decided the color showed its body flaws a little too well. It needed to be busier, so I'm in the process of making it look a bit like a vintage racer. I'm painting it in Irish tricolors -- green bonnet, white cabin, orange boot -- with a giant white circle on the hood that will contain an orange "13" -- smaller ones will be on each door, and "sponsor" logos for Lucas Electrics, Girling Brakes, Esso Petrol and Duckham Oil will get stuck on here and there in places that currently are showing paint runs, rust damage, etc.
Also just installed a new water pump and Beck-Arnold thermostat (180 degrees). Managed to torque off the alternator stud. Once that is replaced, I'll be able to drive the bugger down the road a piece ... after I've reinstalled the seat, of course. I'm afraid there will be some rehab work there, too, as our beagles ripped big chunks of foam off the latter during an unguarded moment in which it was left in their reach ...

| Ready For Spray | 2008-06-30 | 1 | So I pretty much got the bugger ready to go. The bodyshell itself is much less rusty than I thought ... I may have to cut my fiberglas patches out and replace them with patch panel... | |
| A New Idea | 2008-06-26 | 1 | So I spent much of yesterday taking surface rust off with a powered steel brush and coating it with Rustoleum Rust Reformer, a product that nobody but me seems to have had much suc... | |

| Taking Stock | 2008-06-24 | 1 | OK, so I've got the car home now. When I got there Jon had the thing running and he drove it up onto the tow-dolly ramps and I dragged it home 30 miles behind the ol' F250 diesel w... | |
| The Purchase, Or Most Of It Anyway | 2008-06-18 | So I was looking for a thrifty gas-saving commuter that had some Jethro Tull style to it. My Jaguar, a Series III XJ6, gets pretty decent mileage for a four thousand pound car -- 2... |
