Road Testing
Created on 2008-07-11 20:04:27
Well, now that the water pump is in and the radiator back, I had to take the car out on the road a bit. We live on a rural road that goes from nowhere to nowhere, so there's almost no traffic. Which is good, because without the windshield in, 35 mph was about all I could stand. I drove about 5.5 miles -- down and back, down and back -- and stopped to chat with a neighbor so I could let it idle a bit. The idle was smooth at first, then roughed out and finally the car died and was flooded on restart. Mixture is probably a little too rich. But it ran cool the whole way, and that's with just water in the cooling system.

Right now I'm working on getting the chrome bits (bumpers, etc.) cleaned up and back on. Tried my hand at upholstery work -- ended up with something that looked really ugly but was better than the dog-shredded seat squab I had. I guess I'll have to call on a professional for this.

Sorry, no photo this time ... SWMBO hid the camera from me, I think.

Taking Stock 1   OK, so I've got the car home now. When I got there Jon had the thing running and he drove it up onto the tow-dolly ramps and I dragged it home 30 miles behind the ol' F250 diesel w...
The Purchase, Or Most Of It Anyway     So I was looking for a thrifty gas-saving commuter that had some Jethro Tull style to it. My Jaguar, a Series III XJ6, gets pretty decent mileage for a four thousand pound car -- 2...
