Interior Work Nearing Completion ...
Created on 2008-08-20 08:13:03
Not wanting to spend $350 replacing the missing or rotted vinyl interior trim on the car, and having a bunch of old wood lying around from various projects, I set about making an interior out of bright wood. The door cards are made of old-growth Douglas Fir flooring reclaimed from a 90-year-old home in Olympia; the bottom of the doors and sill plates are made of ash; the uprights are African bloodwood that I happened to have around (I asked my wife to pick me up some, and she came home with the least red bloodwood I'd ever seen ... still, looks nice on the door). The headliner and trim is all cedar, tongue-and-groove closet liner across the top with planed and shaped side pieces and header (with mini-shelf), also salvaged from that house in Olympia.
Yet to do: Cut and glue white vinyl to the B pillar and windshield upright, mount wood sticks (bloodwood, probably) up the middle of them, fabricate a wood cover for the pillars by the back hatch and install hardwood floors (white oak, left over from a building project) over the deck and back seat back. Oh, and get more carpet to cover the door sills. Oh yeah, I thought maybe I'd make a console for the shifter to mount on too.
