LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT

I'll never forget the first time i laid eyes on her; adelaide hills, a corregated driveway leading to an old shed. "over there" i'm puzzled and look over the fence to the neighbours yard where she rest. Tartan red, wires, soft top, sprite grill. SOLD

F***! Found ANOTHER cracked wishbone. Oh well, I'll take the time to find a welder for both, instead of buying another reco.

i bought a new wishone. ripped off. oh well, fix the old ones later for spares. Prolly cost me $100 to get em reco'd.
I've got a couple of demensions from all these parts I've been getting. Now I can lose the middle man and get them from the source. Woof,

Overhauling

Paul Robinson — Posted on The MG Experience
Tuesday August 26, 2008 5:20 AM
I'm overhauling my Mk II midget. It's exciting & scary.
"Relax it's an MG" i tell myself.
My Midget has alot of history but not much work has been done to her.
The PO took her hill climbing in the ten years he had her. Guttered on the drivers side. Resprayed.
The usual maintenance. head gasket, brake seals. clutch. ribbed gbox. negative earth. Bushes.
She's fairly original. So i feel some loss. Especially the loom. Examining it was like X-mas. A burnt cables. Electrolysis. Awful joins. It was 40 years old. 40 years of history. And I threw it all away.
I care less about the sway bar mounts shearing into the wishbone. Pinched brake hoses. Messed up caliper dust seals. Wonky alternator. Broken spokes. High tension lead electrolysis. Nearly had the horn right. The grommets...lol the grommets.
BUT I CANT GET THAT LOOM BACK. It's as though i made her less MG. Like an old coin that's been cleaned up. Patina.
Oh well. I'll take some more photos.

I think the PO went a bit nuts after the crash & just wanted it on the road again asap.
The wiper switch looks like a hazard switch; 4 connection points. Where the hazard switch is meant to be theres a simple switch left unplugged.
THe horn was rigged to the dipper on the directional indicator switch.
The bonnet hinges were broken open with washers welded for a bolt with lock nuts to act as a pin.
Since last weekend i've made little progress but i'm still organised with much to do. I cant finish the front end at the moment so i work on the loom, then tune.

it was the headlight switch. Not the hazzards as I wrote. The headlamp sw
when off still powers the parkers and panel switch. When on the parkers are turned off because they're already on via the headlights, damn that PO.

I'd like to catch up with him.
When I'm on the road. Like everything else; when I'm on the road i'll have a hair cut, by a bed, etc.

Outdoors Workspace

when working outdoors try to clean the floor...
jacks and stands sink into the ground.
i have no bench just news paper.
people walk past, staring. i'm filthy. happy.
the gurney is handy. the light is good.
alot of people do major repairs outside. even in the rain 24/7.
there are tricks i'm learning;
have carpet, pegged at the corners where you're working.
newspaper serves as a good clean bench, rag, mop etc.
dirt and soap makes a decent hand cleaner.
take the time to organise all your tools, parts and rubish every couple of days
ALWAYS pack up everything when you're done for the day.
fix the rest tomorrow
