Luggage Rack For Charlotte, The B/GT

The perfect accessory for any MGB/GT — especially one with a Webasto-type sunroof: you can feel like you're in jail, "behind bars", when you look up! This one is an original Amco rack from the late 1960s.

Thanks, Robert — I really love the look! (And I guess it's actually practical too.)

A New And Better Wind Deflector

In the spring, the wind deflector I had installed lost a piece due to a crack (I'm not going to tell you how the crack came about, so don't ask!)

I was going to replace it with the same, but a good friend of mine, who had ended up some years ago with my old 1988 Range Rover, mentioned that he still the wind deflector from that truck, and would give it to me if I thought it would fit. At first glance it seemed fine, and my old concern was that, because it had a much lower profile, it might create clearance problems with the leading edge of the fabric.

But a test fitting indicated that the top would still slide under, so it got installed —afteer drilling yet MORE holes through the steel roof to accomodate the different mounting system! (More ventilation is the way I see it.…)

The new clearance is tight, there' s no denying that. It now takes a trick to secure the header rail to to frame since I can't wiggle it like I could before. But the lower clearance looks better, and the wind and water tightness is now even more secure.

Where Did That Saturn's Bumper Come From?

Well, that happened. OUCH! But soon fixed with a new fender, which thanks to a friend who scans Craigslist, only cost me $195 and a 90 minute drive to pick up.

Charlotte Doing Fine In The Snow!

The Boxing Day Blizzard of 2010 dumped around 16 inches of heavy wet snow here in the Boston area. But Charlotte managed to get through the snow just fine!

Ready For Snow Driving

Charlotte is once again wearing her snow shoes: a full set of Nokian Hakkapeliitta H5 winter tires. But this time, they're mounted back on newly painted Rostyle wheels, instead of last year's Datsun steel wheels (a bad idea, don't ask why I did it). The Nokians don't have studs installed, but if the roads get icy enough to need studs, I don't think I'd want to be driving in the first place.

Cold Air Induction Box

Paul Zink usa — Posted on The MG Experience

Although it's now off temporarily for some welding, a cold air box was fitted to Charlotte in the spring. This is a prototype intended for an MGA, which explains the slightly awkward PVD tube and teh use of (expensive) black MGA heater hose to connect the steel box to the induction tube. It originally was supplied with a flat-style K&N filter, but I already had two ITG foam sock filters, and one of them fit much better.

The box looked gorgeous in its original polished stainless steel form, but after one long drive I touched the box and found that I could fry an egg on it,which defeats the purpose of a "Cold Air" box. So several layers of adhesive-backed Thermo-Tec® heat shielding went on, and that made it cool as a cucumber even in hot summer weather.

Paul, it's beautiful! Wouldn't putting the Thermo-Tec on the inside of it work as well, without spoiling the appearance?
