Rear Telescopic Shock Absorber Conversion

Thomas Aczel — Posted on The MG Experience

Just completed installing telescopic rear shock absorbers (ie dampers to you North Americans) Kit purchased from Nepean Classics near Sydney for $215.Very simple to fit(took my neighbour and me 2 hours) I'm absolutely delighted with the result; the car rides softer, yet paradoxically rolls less in the corners. The car also bounces around much less on rough surfaces. Highly recommended.

Forgot to mention that this conversion uses oil filled NOT gas filled dampers. The suppliers (Nepean Classics)told me they'd trialled a number of gas filled units and they all caused the vehicle to ride too harshly. I've since traulled the net and the non-suitability of gas shock absorbers(ie dampers) on the rear of MGB's seems to be a recurring theme.

Hi,,I have a 64 mgb and I am also considering this conversion,,did it require any re-drilling and was it a bolt on kit,
thanks heaps, Barry

the previous photo showed a superficially healthy sill. It transpired that in past years I'd paid good money for "restoration" work done with chicken wire and filler over untouched rust.here's some of what we found.

Third and hopefully last restoration was completed this week. After 35 years of ownership this is the best the cars ever looked. As always, more trouble than expected emerged during the work, especially in the notorious weak spot; the sills.Today's photo will show what looked like a healthy sill till probing revealed otherwise

looks ok doesn t it
