New pistons were needed as well. So Phyllis is now back home after a month in the garage. £469.00 for the whole job lot - she runs like a dream now.

So all in all, we have new pistons, rings, gasket sets, valves and head re ground, cylinders honed etc.

Welcome home Phyllis!

It Goes From Bad To Worse

After head gasket redone etc, engine put back together, test run revealed plumes of smoke - you got it, worn piston oil rings!

Restrip once again, new rings needed! Good news is that the shells are okay!

Find out tomorrow the extra cost.

At this rate, the engine has had a partial rebuild and recondition....

Oh My Goodness!

Picked the car up from York on 21st August - drove her over the A64 back towards home and then low and behold, lots of overheating going on and steam and smoke everywhere!!!!
The AA breakdown towed me home and told me the Head Gasket had gone!
Called a local garage who further towed her away and this is the outcome:
£436.00 to:
- Undertake full pressure test
- Valves de-coked and refaced
- All gaskets replaced
- Oil Change
- Oil filter change
- Air filter change
- service

The chap I bought it off, advised he would stump up half of the bill!!!!

She should be back on the road very soon!
