Britain On The Green Show
Created on 2008-04-27 20:49:14
April 27, 2008 - "Junie" made her second show appearance this year at the "Britain on the Green" car show sponsored by the Triumph Registry, held at Collinwood Library.
It was an excellent event with good quality, food, live entertainment and vendors. Very well organized and great turn out for British cars in British weather conditions.
A fellow car club member came over on Friday, before the event, to help me rebuild my HS4 S.U. carburators and put back into Junie. She has been running well on a Weber downdraft, but I wanted to get her back to original configuration and tune up the carbs.
We had completed the rebuild kits and were fitting the intake manifold on when it became apparent that the exhaust manifold had been altered or "shaved" to fit with the thinner flanges of the Weber intake manifold.
Man, I was that close! "That" being about 1/8 to 1/4 inch and we had to put the Weber back on...after cleaning it up a bit.
So, I'm shopping for another exhaust manifold.
The good news is...while we had the Weber off, I took the opportunity to replace the side engine cover gaskets and proper cup washer on the rear cover. The cork gasket on the rear tended to spread out as I tighted the bolt...so I backed off and reset the gasket with high temperature, black permatex sealant, snugged it down and let it set up overnight.
The next afternoon (Saturday), I gave the side cover bolts a couple of turns, careful not to squish the gasket out of place.
In the mean time, I had pulled the transmission crossmember to access the rear engine mounts and cleaned it up. After a primer of rust inhibitor, I put a coat of black gloss on and reassembled the crossmember and stayrod, replacing the rear engine mount bushings.
The stayrod bushings were in poor condition as well and I ordered a complete set of polyurethane bushes to put that back in order...next time she is up on stands.
I was pleased to discover the oil leaks from the engine side covers are gone. My drive down to Alexandria, VA and back was pleasant with no drop in oil pressure. I checked the engine compartment upon my return to find no oil "weeping" from the side engine covers.
Awesome!
