Transmission Mounts And Stay-rod Bushings
Created on 2008-05-02 20:54:42
April 26 - May 1, 2008
I was very proud of myself after replacing the transmission mounts, sometimes refered to as rear engine mounts.
The most difficult part was getting the crossmember off and out of the way without dismantling the exhaust system.
Then is was just the matter of reassembly. I found that the limited clearance from the exhaust allowed me to fit one bushing on the passenger side of the mount prior to offering the crossmember up to the body of the car. Once in position, I could wiggle the driver's side bushing into position and start tightening the mounting bolts...at least that's what I recall doing as I'm writing this...
I ordered urethane stay-rod bushings because of the oil seep that caused them to deteriorate in the first place. Installing them was much easier.
