Original, Duel S.U. Carbs Synched And Running Smoothly.
Created on 2008-06-15 20:07:36
June 12, 2008 - I called the customer service folks at Victoria British on Monday and the technicians researched the "short" jet problem with the rebuild kit I received and sent a replacement.

It arrived in Saturday's mail along with the additional parts I ordered from The Little British Car Company.

I decided to replace the choke and accelerator cables while I was at it and ordered them with the correct cable stops.

Once the jet was "centered" properly, using the instructions in the Bentley Book and Haynes Manual, the piston moved freely, down to the bridge of the carburator and we could continue with the tuning procedure.

Using the neighbors timing instrument and his mechanical experience, we synchronized the carbs at an idle speed of about 850 rpm. Even though the manuals recommended 500, we couldn't see how the engine oil pressure and flow could be maintained so low.

Once the jets were adjusted, we locked the accelerator bar and moved on to the choke setting.

The final result was a smooth running, easy crank and go versus the slow engine warm up that I experienced with the Weber.

Acceleration and low, medium and upper end speeds improved dramatically. Very responsive with great sound.

I'm very pleased with the conversion and having the original S.U.'s back on and running better than ever.
