New Toy

After trying to figure out how to make some of the firewall cuts I need to make, I decided to buy a plasma cutter. Just a cheap one (yeah Harbor Freight), but this really makes cutting stuff up easy!

Hood Repaired

The last piece of sheetmetal to be worked on is the hood. There were two punched in areas close to the bulkhead end, and the front lip was also damaged. The hood is now repaired, and ready for some build primer and blocking. I should have taken a picture before I started, but looks like I forgot.

Hood (bonnet) Seams

Since I welded the fenders on, I removed all the bolts and captive nuts that hold the fender in place along the hood edge. The bolt holes were welded in, then ground flush and filled. I'm also filling any and all holes in the inner fenders, and will probably need to dish the inner fenders in at least two places for the turbo and A/C compressor (if I can make it fit)

Doors

More body mods:
Since I am using Harley mirrors that mount to the wind wing, I welded up the mirror holes in the door. I also welded in the door lock hole. Doors are now nice and smooth. The body is almost done and ready for buildup primer and blocking.

Nice job. I should have my SR20det MGB swap done this week, as I'm only waiting on the drive shaft to be made. How are you mounting the alternator? I put mine on the right, used ont ef the tapped holes in the block for the alternator top mount point and a custom bracket for the bottom hole. After a bit of trimming it seams to fit. Also why not use a intercooler in front of the radiator I got one for a civic, and used a puller fan on the radiator and cut he front air deflector/ shield. Also what did you pay for the 4 link, I see Moss has one now but I cant justify $4,500 for a 4 link, I know I'll need some sort of anti-tramp system with the power.

Great to have another kindred spirit. I haven't worked all the details out, but I am planning on mounting the alternator on the left side. I found a short bracket on an Infinity SR20, keeps it close to the engine block. I need to mount a power steering pump as well, that will go on the right side (less room there). I found another option on the Datsun Roadster site- they have a custom bracket to mount a small Subaru alternator on the right side- real close and tight. The intercooler is now behind an air dam that will route the air thru it. I need to run a transmission cooler (I'm installing an automatic transmission), oil cooler, and power steering cooler, so I wanted to have more frontal area for coolers. I'm also considering Air Conditioning (if I can fit a compressor), so that will be one more item to run air thru- it's starting to get crowded up there. Check with Bill Guzman on the 4-link. It cost approx $1200 with shipping, the quality looks excellent, and it is bolt on except for the upper axle brackets

Mirrors

I don't mind the look of the stock mirrors, but they do leave a bit to be desired as far as viewing area. So I have been looking for alternatives. The current options are:
RX7: electric adjust, reasonable size, but kind of boxy/angular looking.
Miata: electric adjust, nice shape, but the mounting surface angle is incorrect.
3000GT: electric adjust, heated, correct mounting angle, too large
All of these options would offer electric adjustment, but will require reinforcing the door skin to prevent buckling. And the just don't look "right". I saw a couple cars with Harley Motorcycle mirrors. These have possibility- the are convex so they have a larger viewing area, nice chrome finish, and are mounted to the wind wing frame instead of the door skin, so the doors would be much cleaner.
