Seat Installation
Created on 2007-11-01 11:39:39
I have read a few postings about installing the Fiero seats in MGBs, and want to make sure these go in essy. I'm doing all the mods prior to recovering the seats, just in case there are problems. So here is what I've done:
1. The Fiero passenger seat is installed on the driver's side and vice versa.
2. The front holes in the mounting frames ALMOST line up with the existing holes in the floor, but not quite. The first seat I tried grinding the holes wider, but that actually looks bad, and takes a long time. So the second seat I drilled a second hole next to the existing hole- much quicker and looks better.
3. The rear holes don't line up with anything, so new holes will need to be drilled in the floor. The sheet metal isn't reinforced in that area, and was actually distorted where my old seats were installed, so I straightened the floor and welded a strip of steel across that area (3/16" X 2" X 20"). Then I drilled and tapped two holes to match up with the holes in the seat frames. Finally, I installed screws from underneath, these will be tacked in place and nuts used to install the seats in place.
The resulting installation looks pretty good, now it's time to recover the seats.
