I'm making a new egg crate style grill for my MG out of aluminum, it's looking great so far

Chrome Bumper Conversion

Adam Lambert — Posted on The MG Experience

On Friday I completed the chrome bumper conversion on my 1978 MGB. It looks great. I have a bit of advice for those of you planning to do this to your rubber bumper as well.
1. The kit sold on Moss to do this cost $994.95. I spent $186.00 and that included new tail lights which you most likely won't need. Go on eBay, I spent as follows

Front bumper bar with out over riders - $11.00 (eBay)
Rear bumper - $40.00 (eBay)
Front signal lights - $80.00 (over paid at a swap meet)
Mark I tail lights - $50.00 (on eBay)
sheet metal $5.00 (I bought all the metal for the whole car, floors rockers etc at a scrap metal place for only $40.00!)

Now this does not include paint, but I was going to paint the whole car any way. This is a very easy conversion to do. Also don't follow Moss's directions ether. If you mount the bumpers the way they say, the car won't take a bump very well at all. I mounted the bumpers like they were from the factory from '62-'74. The rear bumper is mounted by drilling a hole in the rear valence so it lines up with the rear spring mount. Then buy the original rear bumper mount (on eBay!) and bolt it to the frame (this is a little more involved but I'm sure most of you can figure it out)
For the front it's even easier. Cut off those ugly mounts for the rubber bumpers exposing just the frame rails, then mount the bumper like it would have been in 62, right on the side of the frame. (you'll have to make a taped plate and insert it in the frame to bolt on to) That easy.
Now the front signals I haven't finished yet. I choose to move them over to the original '62 space not closer to the grill like they would be from '70 on. I hope this helps some of you guys out there to save money and have better mounted bumpers

I went to the British Invasion Car show last weekend in Stowe, VT, it was great, thousands of cars, and tons of people to talk to about them, I even bought a few parts for my MG

Vent Windows!!!

Adam Lambert — Posted on The MG Experience
Monday August 24, 2009 2:32 PM
So this weekend we finished the body work on the doors. Just before i finished I wanted to check to make sure the vent window still fit. I hadn't even looked at it since I removed it over a year and a half ago. Since then it's been sitting in my basement. When I put it on I noticed that the inner glass didn't fit the frame very well. After a long time studying it I realised that the bottom part of the vent frame was welded incorrectly, and because of this everything else was bent to fit the door. Making the vent window not fit right against the windshield or the top.
No biggie I thought I'll buy new ones, how much could they possibly be? I looked on Moss and Victoria British $500 a piece? A $1000 for both? I only paid $800 for the whole car!!! Even ebay was over priced for broken ones. I have no problem welding them, I just don't know where they should be welded!!! Can any one help?

Moved The Gas Cap

This past week I've been working a lot of finishing up the custom body work in the rear. I finished the new placement of the filler cap of the right rear fender, it's looking good and this will allow me to make the back nice and clear, no more beads on the fenders or below the trunk lid, no more reverse light holes or gas cap hole.
