Last Weekend :)

As usual, I took the car out. Since it was nice, why not? Most of the trip was spent inside the borders of South Park, just driving around in circles. Very little traffic on the back roads, meant I could take it easy. But, some time was also spent down on Route 88 in and around Library, PA...just north of the Washington County line. 88 tends to run parallel to the old Montour RR 'Library Branch.' It was tempting to get a few photos of the GT with the MTR's old viaduct in the background.

Anyway, I took a quick trip through the park the other way, and found myself down on Piney Fork Rd. Those of you familiar with Pittsburgh's southern end might have heard of "Corvette Tunnel," which is supposedly haunted.

The story goes that some kids were drag-racing down there years ago, and someone was killed. Supposedly, if you drive in there at night, flip your lights off, you'll see and hear sounds of the doomed car. Also haunted, is the old rail tunnel, about 15 feet or so from the road tunnel.

That tunnel, is said to be home to the Green Man. Story goes that a power company worker was electrocuted, turning his skin green. He only comes out at night, and again, if you shut your engine off and call for him, he'll appear. But, if he touches your car, you'll have a hard time restarting it!

Back to the trip! Since Corvette Tunnel is rather tight, there are stop signs at both ends. Most drivers tap their horns a few times before entering, and inside the tunnel.

No sooner did I do that...when the "high note" quit working! The damn Green Man got me!

Once home though, the bonnet was raised, and I tried to fix it. No avail though. It's not the wiring, since the horn doesn't work on the other side either.

It's Home!

Yep, my B GT is back in my care, after a few things were sorted. The main one, being the dent left in the hood. How did that get there? Well, the "garage" across town was messing with the latch, forced the hood down, and dented it. They fixed that, rewired the hazard light circuit correctly, plus bolted the seats in. I had to lean on them (and threaten them with legal action) before they'd do anything.

That was last Saturday. As I was picking the car up, the skies opened, and getting home was...difficult. Even with the wipers going full-blast, it was hard to see. Even more so, because I had to keep the windows up...and kept stopping to wipe off the glass. A trip that should have taken about 20 minutes took well over an hour! Oddly enough, when I got home...the rain had stopped.

Perfect excuse to take the car out *again* later I drove out Old Clairton Rd, then followed that up with a blast down Route 51 to West Newton. Now that was a fun trip!

But, it highlighted some things that need sorted. Things such as the annoying rumble around 60mph/3,000rpm in fourth, which goes away at 65mph, the worn suspension, worn tires, etc. Still, it's good to have the car back, and I'm sure most of that will get sorted over the winter.

Oh, and I'll have to put the rest of the interior panels back in

Still No MG :(

As of now, I have no idea when my GT will be coming home. It's still away, having some "repairs" rectified. That includes the wiring issues, the seats and carpets not being fitted, and the dents in the hood removed. Why all that happened? Well, the shop that was "restoring" the car decided to cut some corners. Not only that, but they also charged me for work that wasn't done at all!

And yes, it bugs me that another summer is nearly over, and I haven't had the MG to play with. Looks like I'll get the car returned to me in November (just like last year), enjoy it a short while...and then have to put it away for winter again. But, who knows--maybe it'll be 70 degrees (F) like it was last Christmas, and the MG will come out to play.

Don't get me wrong--my daily-driver Corolla isn't a bad car--it's pretty good in most regards. However, unlike the MG...it either has no soul...or very little. Pity.

Nothing To See Here...

Very little has gone on with the car lately. It's been away, having some minor electrical issues sorted. Having to turn the dashboard lights on with the hazard light switch got a bit annoying. Plus, there was always the danger of something shorting out. Since the radio console isn't fitted, the switches just hang off into space, and could shoot sparks if I'm not careful!

Hopefully, the shop is going to fit the carpets, so I can bolt the seats in properly. Up until now, only the driver's seat was in--the rear and passenger seats were left at home whenever I'd drive it.

I still find it hard to believe that this is the same car I inherited (as a wreck) back in 2004. Then, the engine was blown up, the sills were holed, and the interior was gutted. Oh, and the brakes were long gone. It's only been back home since last year. But, what a fun year it's been!
