The cylinder head is not original to the car. There is a date stamp of 6/71 which is 7 months after the car's final assembly date. This particular head is the 2nd version of the MGB's 1962-1980 lifetime. The block is not original to the car either. It comes from a 1977 MGB.

Valvetrain Job

The 71 B is getting a valve job this year. I'm doing the work myself with some help from my brother Todd and his machine shop. The reason for starting this job was due to weak compression in #3 (30PSI) vs 115-125 in other three.

Here is a picture of the engine bay when I removed the head from the block. Because, the head was frozen on tightly to the block, I needed to get clever to get it off. I finally perched a bottle jack on the alternator and used a chain to pry up the head.
