More Sandblasting.

After the kids had a squirt gun fight next to the midget, there was a lot of surface rust, so I sandblasted the front end and primered it. The weather is beginning to change, and since the car is stored outside, I figured I'd better get it cleaned up.

Finished Column

My first attempt had more angle in the upper joint than I cared for. It was approximately 24 degrees but didn't look or feel right, so I relocate the heim and lengthened the lower shaft. I also had to change the oil cooler fitting on the block so the line would clear the shaft. Next is sandblasting and priming the engine bay.

I ordered the u-joints and double d shaft from Speedway. Tony, the sales rep, found the parts I couldn't find on their website.

Steering Column

After installing the rack, it was time to connect the column. I wanted to keep the original column because of the wiring and collapsing center section. In it's original configuration, the column misses the new rack by location as well as angle.

Rack Installation

After doing a quick adjustment on the alignment, I centered the rack and steering arms. The sweged tubes from the speed shops certainly make a much cleaner installation.
