High Country Tour 2007

May 2007 left home heading for the NSW and Vic alps.
Drove down the coast road via Batemans Bay, Bega, Eden to Lakes Entrance with 7 cars from our club, the Razorback Crankhandle Association.
Then left Lakes Entrance and onto the Omeo Highway to Omeo then to Mount Hotham. Plenty of twisty bits for many gear changes. Mount Hotham - waste of time going here in the non-snow period as we couldn't even get lunch!
Then down into Bright - what a great place.
Stayed 2 nights at Bright (great place - excellent food - avoid the Alpine Hotel - food is rubbish). Did a couple of side trips, one to Beechworth - historic mining area. Then went along to Milawa (great food at the Milawa Country Cafe)where the Gardner clan originated in Australia with Colin Gardner (first Gardner from Cunnock in Scotland helped Brown Bothers establish their winery) then along the Murray Valley to Corryong to see the man from Snowy River's grave and had a great lunch at the Corryong pub.
Into the NSW alps and up over Dead Horse Gap into Jindabyne. Waited at Dead Horse Gap fro a couple of other cars to arrive for a photo opportunity. Stayed 2 nights here at Jindabyne and like mount Hotham, bugger all to do if there is no snow!
There is a great junk yard outside Cooma where the guy must have 100 old cars ranging from 1920' to 1950's.
Then down into Canberra and stay with eldest daughter for 1 night then back home.
No problems with the ZB this time, heater worked well and managed to fill the boot and back seat with trinkets and wine again.

Kangaroo Island Trip

November 2006, left The Oaks NSW in the ZB to go to Kangaroo Island, SA.
Minor problems - split oil pressure gauge line 25 miles from home (fixed with spare tubing - welded to one piece after home), leaky fuel pump(changed with spare), oil leak from filter housing ($20 fix at local servo while we had lunch), broken speedo cable ($40 fix at home).
3500 miles at average 27mpg.
Back seat can hold 8 dozen wine :-) and bits and pieces for better half (quilt fabrics and other things)
Great trip, KI a wonderful place to visit, very friendly people, even a couple of MG owners on the Island.
Cruised at 50mph most places - got tired of being abused by other drivers who all want to break the sound barrier in their moderns - nearly got run off the road in SA near Kingston by a hoon in a V8 - rat bag!!!
