An Update...way Past Due

I sold my G60 Corrado back in April of 2008. It still lives on in Oshkosh, Wisconsin with its new owner. I don't believe he is a part of Corrado World. At any rate, I finally reached my limit with the car when the new timing belt I had installed broke for the final time. I grew tired of wrenching on it when I'd have rather been driving it.

Nice to see the picture of it on the website header...thanks for that Skye.

My replacement ride is a 2001 Audi TT Quattro Roadster. Tastefully modded and quick as hell. Reliable too! I added a headliner for the convertible top, a center armrest, and a factory luggage rack I found on EBAY. I also tracked down the original Pzwo P1 wheels that were on the car when it was bought new by Hillside Imports here in Portland.

Audi TT Quattro Roadster, very nice, my buddy has one and it's awesome. Yeah I hear you,
the Corrado can be a real PITA some times but I just can't seem to get rid of it =) If you
want the car removed from your profile, just drop me an email or something. You're also
#1 in the Registry haha.

No it's fine Skye. I enjoy reminiscing...at least about the good times. I'm glad you're still having fun with yours. Did you ever get that MG body back?

It Never Ends!

Today on the way into work the timing belt snapped. It was only a year old and not even 10000 miles on it. The Corrado went home on the flat bed without me. Thank God for AAA+ one call for a tow or roadside assistance and it pays for itself.

Replaced the belt, checked the timing, no valve damage, runs great now, at least until the next thing breaks.

Doing It All Over Again

Same trouble...this time with the pinned sprocket. Engine's out, crankshaft pulled, back to the machine shop for another crankshaft repair and pin job...this time with two pins. I will make damn sure that the bolt is torqued correctly and plenty of green loctite is used.

Got everythng repaired on the crank...new sprocket double pinned, replaced the mains and rod bearings. The engine is back in and running well. Even got the AC recharged and the alignment done. Life is good again.

Engine pulled and disassembled, preparing to receive polished balanced and knife-edged crank. Supercharger is back from BBM with fresh strips and seals.

We were able to tap the threads in the crankshaft with a 14mm X1.5 tap today. I will pin a new sprocket on it and build the spare motor.
Comment by Tom Lindmark at 2007-03-24 12:29:31
I decided that the fit of the new sprocket on the end of the damaged crankshaft is less than acceptable due to a small amount of wobble or play in the key-way. I will find a different crankshaft to build up the spare engine.
Comment by Tom Lindmark at 2007-03-24 12:31:09
The knife-edged crankshaft came back from BBM yesterday so now I can begin re-assembling the 1.9 Litre.

Engine re-assembled. Started Thursday 4/12/07. Ran so bad I flat towed it to the shop. They found I had the distributor out of time which explains why it was running so retarded. They are trying to eliminate a miss at 2500 RPM but otherwise the engine is running well. I should have it back this Monday 4/16 following R-134A recharge

G60 Crankshaft And Timing Sprocket

The sprocket and keyway on the crankshaft failed the other day. The crank and bolt threads are badly galled. I am going to replace the crank with a used one and put in new bottom end bearings and seals. The engine comes out this weekend.

That's a drag. Any valve damage? Can't remember if it's an interference design.
Comment by Tom Lindmark at 2007-02-27 08:59:10
No valve damage. Non-interference engine. New crankshaft (Polished balanced, Knife-edged) is on its way. Doing a mini rebuild.
