Carpet And Headliner

Gary Brown Gold Member — Posted on The MG Experience

Well the new carpet and headliner kit is on the way from PJM Motors in the UK. Can't wait to get started putting it in. I'll be sure to post some pics when it arrives.
Big push now to try and finish the GT in time for MG2012 in Dillard, Ga. Wanted to take the GT instead of the roadster as I want to get some things taken care of on the roadster this summer. I only have the money to work on one at a time, so the roadster is waiting now while I finish up the GT.
Major debate going on in my head now as to whether I am going to put the '65 up for sale. Being on fixed income makes it difficult to maintain 2 MG's at a high level.

Interior For The GT

Ordered the new carpet and headliner kit from PJM Motors today. Also ordered the C Post liners. PJM Motors is in England, and they are the same people I got my interior from for the '65. I was extremely pleased with that interior I got for the '65 so I expect the same quality and good appearance for the interior for the GT.
The interior carpet will be red and the headliner and C Post liner will be gray. The carpet usually takes a few weeks so hopefully by the second week of February it should be on the way. Should have it by the end of February and will start right away with the installation.

Restoration Poor

Since I am no longer able to work, my time is taken up with procuring parts needed to finish up the restoration on the '67 GT.
It is amazing to me the sheer number of little parts required. Due to high shipping costs, I have to make sure when I order I am ordering several items to make it worthwhile. Nothing worse than paying $10 to $12 dollars for shipping on a $2 seal. A lot of time that means things sit while you wait for parts. Very frustrating.
Having to be on a fixed income is also very frustrating. When I was working I always had the money needed to get whatever parts necessary. Now I have to watch every penny just to make it to the next check. Greg (my resto man) and I are hoping to have the GT finished around April. It's going to be awful tight with the funds as I still have to order my carpet, the headliner material and new wheels and tires.
Been more than once I have contemplated selling the roadster just so I wouldn't have to worry about having the money to finish the GT. The wife likes the roadster as much as I do and has encouraged me to keep her. Gotta love that woman.

Parts Just Keep Coming!

Got in a bunch of parts the past few weeks. I had ordered all the seals for the windows, windshield and rear hatch glass. Also got a really nice console off evilbay. I've got a homemade console I picked up from a gent in the UK but have decided not to use it on the GT.
I'll probably see about selling it. Also picked up a new steering wheel. Got a good deal on it. The one I have on the GT now is ok but needs to be cleaned up and painted. I'll do that this spring and either keep it as a spare or sell it if someone needs it.
In a few weeks I will order the carpet, headliner kit and new c post panels. I'll get them from PJM Motors out of the UK. Until then.....

Sunday Drive

Today was a beautiful day, sunny and cool, so I took Baby out for a spin. Couldn't see sitting in the house when it was so nice. Weather will turn soon so I didn't want to miss an opportunity to drive.
Went out to my favorite local landmark, Humpback Bridge. It was built in the 1850's.

List Of Parts Needed For GT

Went down to Greg's today so I could get a list of parts I need to order. Went ahead and ordered them so looks like everything is coming together.
Still have a lot of work to do but expect to be finished with the car by April. Not going to be taking the roadster to any more shows, so I hope to be able to take the GT. It won't be a show winner like "Baby" was, but that's OK. I just like going to the shows and meeting other MG owners and talking about the cars.
Here are a few pics. The car was covered so I only took some pictures of the work we're doing under the hood. We had the engine and tranny pulled so we could run all the lines and the wiring.
I say "we" all the time but Greg, does 99% of the work. I help where I can, but he is "the man'.

The engine bay looks really really good. I wish the bay on my 65 looked as good. Once question, where did you get the wiring harness? I am building a new harness for mine, and would like to know where to get it braided like that.

Thanks Ron. The harness came with the car when I bought it. You can purchase the harness from Moss, Victoria British and some of the other suppliers. I don't know of anyone that sells just the wire cover though.
