Also, make sure that you check the type of Laycock overdrive, you also might have a Type-D overdrive which would have been for cars '62-'67. You wouldn't want to use that transmission in your car (even though it would work).

A transmission with a dipstick comes originally from a chrome bumper B. Later transmissions have a level filler plug on the side of the casing.
You can identify the OD-unit by it's solenoid coverplate, like Tom said. Black label is chrome bumper (until 1974 1/4), blue label is rubber bumper (1974 1/4 on).
You could install a chrome bumper tranny (dipstick) with a rubber bumper OD, but then you would have to recalibrate the speedometer or switch the speedo gear and speedo pinion in the OD (red instead of white). You need to do this, because the speedo will be 25 percent off if you don't. I did the switch and I'm satisfied with the result.
