Re-Assembly Begins

This past weekend we started putting pieces back *on* the GT. After I had bent some replacement brake lines, my son Tim and I installed the rear rain gutter trim, rear quarter windows bottom trim, rubber seals, and the glass and finishers. I did the passenger side, Tim did the driver. Jeremy ended up connecting the gas tank filler tube.

Wiring harness and hydraulics are next...

After weeks of sanding, priming, painting, sanding, over and over and over, we buffed the car this weekend. Tim and Jer and I sanded and buffed, and it looks pretty good. We'll check it out and clean it up some more, but we're getting close to putting pieces back on.

Waxoyl, Paint, Runs, Drips And Errors

What a busy Father's Day weekend. On Saturday I masked off and painted the spoiler on my daughter's new (to her) 1997 Camry. The paint had been washed away - sanding and a rattle can from paintscratch.com

I then installed my returned Speedometer from Nisonger - it's not calibrated for my 1280 TPM overdrive so far as speed is concerned, but the mileage will be 28% fast.

Since it was a warm day I ended up shooting the 64 and 79 MGB's with WaxOyl - Sills, behind the mud guards, and in the doglegs. Hopefully it will hold the tinworm at bay.

Finally, on Sunday, father's day, I decided it was time to take a shot at painting the GT. After Tim, Jeremy, and I did a final batch on wet sanding and cleaning, I began to paint the car. Coverage was pretty good, not too much orange peel, but lots of runs and drips on the sides - Not sure how I did it, but they're there. So, I see more and more sanding in my future, but the car it all one color, and needs some work before I start to reassemble.

Front Suspension, Before And After

Finished the front suspension rebuild this weekend. All new Energy Suspension bushings, rebuilt shocks from WorldWide, and a lot of scraping, wire brushing, cleaning, and painting.

I've put the wheels back on bu not the brakes yet; I'm still rebuilding them - replacing all seals, hoses, and cylinders. I'll be switching to DOT5 brake fluid.

I also picked up a GT tailgate down near Phillly last night: it has better glass, better gate arms, and more importantly, it hase the chromed finisher. I'm good to go with these - very tough to find this chrome piece.

Front Suspension Rehab

I've been working on the front suspension of the GT over the past few weeks. Lots of rust and oil, dirt, dead chocks, all rubber rotten - oof.

While I'm not done yet, here are some shots of the progress on the front suspension, before, during and after. As posted in an earlier entry, I did shoot paint in the interior wheel wells and under the front apron.

Sure is a pleasure to see the progress and paint.

A Little Paint, A Little Polish...

This was a short weekend, but got some work done. On M, I pulled the rest of the loose suspension pieces, the run of the fuel line, rear brake line, wiring harness, and battery cable. Iset up a quick paint booth, and painted the insides of both front wheel wells. I also painted the underside of the front apron.

A few hours later I wire brushed out the inside of the front crossmember, and since the outside was already cleaned, I used Rust Encapsulator on the inside, and Rustoleum on the outside.

On Sunday I put the carbs back on Mrs. Peel. I received them back from Pete Cosmides, mounted and balanced them, and drove back and forth in the driveway. They sound very nice.

And, just for grins, I started Miss K this weekend, and rocked her back and forth a few times just to roll the tires.

I'll need to pull the engine and gearbox soon, but I need to reassemble the front suspension.
