The Suspense Is Killing Me...

Another productive weekend.

On Mrs. Peel - the 64B - the new clutch master cylinder was installed and bled. The rear axle oils level was filled - just waiting for the carbs back from Pete Cosmides.

On the GT, 'M', I ended up pulling the brakes, rotors, shocks, and swaybar from the front end. Most of the pieces were put into the parts cleaner, and one set was painted. The whole underside of the car seems to be coated with a very fine, tightly packeds grey/brown mud. This car had an Alaska regisatration; I wonder if it's glacial mud?

Lots of parts are being ordered: all new brake lines and hoses, bushings, tie rod ends, engine and gearbox mounts: if it was rubber or plastic, it's being replaced.

I'm just waiting for a few warm days so I can shoot some paint!

Just Venting...

Just a few hours of work this afternoon, but helpful.

On Mrs. Peel, here carbs have been pulled and will be sent to Pete Cosmides at Motorcar Garage. They need to be re-bushed.

On the GT, the radiator was cleaned and painted. The vent windows were disassembled, and all the replacement rubber for them was ordered from the Roadster Factory.

On Mrs. Peel, I've received the paper gasket and O-ring for the rear axle. I'm waiting on a 1-61/64th to arrive. Hopefully this week.

Cold Winter Work

Happy new year!

On Mrs. Peel, I've added the front anti-sway bar - new copil pans, a-arms, links, bars, etc. She was missing these since I got her. Hopefully, she'll handle better this spring. I also noticed oil on the passenger rear wheel: bad axle seal. All apart now; with new seal. I need to get the o-ring and gasket.

On the GT, I continue to do prep work for paint. Pieces being removed, components being rehabbed, waiting for the day in the spring when she goes back together.

Because my daughter is now driving, there is a need for me to use one of the MGs as an 'Almost' daily driver. So, the work on the GT has been accelerated.

This past weekend my sons Tim, Jeremy, and I stripped off all the windows, rain gutters, rubber trim, door hardware, windshield, and rear window. I repaired a hole in the passenger fron wing, and started removing other pieces in preparation for painting.

This week we'll pull off more parts in preparation for paint. The outside and interior will be painted, the engine bay at some future point. So, dash needs removing and powder coating, instruments cleaned, etc.

The car will be painted with Eastwood's Euro Racing green, urethane.

A Quick Update

Did a bunch of little things over the past few months.

Mrs. Peel is running pretty well, although my timing seems to be wandering from time to time. I had a wheel squeak: thought it might have been brakes, but ended up being wheel splines that needed grease.

Miss kensington has her new engine and upgraded headlights. I had a starter failure, and then replaced it with a one I had on hand, also bad, and finally puy in a gear reduction one. Timing needs some work, and I haven't tested the overdrive yet, but she runs.

Em, the GT, is on the lift. We've put in a new fuel tank, new exhaust system, and rebuilt the fuel pump. New hoses have been purchased and some put in.

All in all, things are looking pretty good on the MG front.

In And Out

Over the past two weekend we pulled Mrs. Peel's engine and gearbox, added the missing components to the gearbs, and reinsalled. During the test-firiing of the engine we damaged the fan and radiator, so did some more replacing.

Miss K's reassembly also proceeds nicely.

Today a new soft top and remanufactured generator arrived for Mrs Peel, so we'll try to do that before BritFest in May 1.

Finally, installed the last new old part in Mrs Peel - a 40-year old ash tray. Time to start smoking!
