End Of Year Work
Created on 2007-01-10 07:09:03
Well, not having posted since October, it's time to update the journal. A bunch of little work has been going on.
I obtained a hardtop that will work either on Miss Kensington, or Maggie when she's done. It was beat up, but I sanded and gave the top a rattle-can paint job, replaced all the gaskets EXCEPT for the rear window, and placed it on Miss K for the winter. However the weather's been so nice that we actually pulled it off for a few rides this fall and winter.
When driving with the hard top I was hearing alot of noise from under the car; conversations on this forume led me to believe it was either a problem with Universal Joints, the rear-differential 'clunk', or both. I removed the prop shaft after determining the front jount was bad. Disassemblt showed that a PO had put the cups on two of the arms back on with rollers missing, and they had worn grooved into the shaft. It improved the ride quite a bit, but there is still the clunk. I'll tackle that in the coming months.
While Christmas shopping, the car stalled in a mall parking lot and was very difficult to start. Getting home was fine, but the problem occurred a week later again. I got her home and into the garage and popped the hood. Turning the ingition key got the fuel pump working and the carb (a Weber 32/36 DGAV) started to fill with fuel. I tear down revelaed that the brass floats had filled with fuel. I drained them and repaired them temporarily; I'll replace them as well.
A few litle things were fixed- door switches, a new seat belt on the drivers side, and other things I can't remember.
I still haven't fixed the timing chain cover leak. I can't get the main bolt off yet. I still don't want to pull this engine, so I'll remove the radiator and try an impact wrench.
