The 71 MGB- Sarah Jane
Created on 2007-03-26 03:59:44
Well, my sickness continues. I had seen this car on ebay, and meant to buy it just for the wheels. But then I discover it has a stainless exhaust system, a Gold Seal engine, already modified for unleaded (which runs), new SUs, new Oil Cooler, etc. The sils and rockers, floorboards are in good shape, but the front and rear wings have rust. Most of the car had been hit with POR 15. The driver side door has the crack of doom.
The trunk has been taken out, and gas tank, but replacements came with thc car. So, instead of parting it out, I'm gonna restore it. Told you I had a sickness.
After taking off the front wings, I saw that the mud flaps had some work done on them, and the captive nuts were some sort of clip on device- I welded new captive nuts on there. I cleaned up some of the rust with the POR-15 system.
Heater box had usual rust, but the vent drain tube is missing, so lots of surface rust underneath.
Lots of wear on the clutch pedal access point and pin, but I have spares. The shelf on the passenger side has rusted through, so I've already done some rust replacement and welded patches on it.
The rear passenger wing is in real bad shape, and I've already removed the bottom half of it. A trunk panel is rusted through, so that'll need to be replaced as well.
It appears now that the POR-15 the DPO has put on was done incorrectly, so mush of it is peeling like an onion skin. Some was hiding new rust underneath, so more fun to be discovered.
In general, no real ugly suprises, just work. Watch this space.
