Hood Hinge Problem

Mike Nyholm — Posted on The MG Experience

The weld on the hood bracket that the hinge connects to is beginning to pull apart. I disconnected the hood struts since they mount close to this area and seem to be putting added stress to it. This is not good timing since I just completed painting the car last spring. Trying to reweld the area probably would require the hood to be repainted.

Been in Guatemala the last 2 weeks so have not made any entries lately. I didn't put in a "before" pic when I started this journal so thought since last entry was a pic of finishing the B for the summer, I should get a pic of where things were at the start 2 years ago.

Done For The Summer!

She's all put together and on the road. Adjusted the valves, changed the oil, checked the timing and we're off. A couple things that surfaced...We were pulling a pretty big hill and suddenly the accelerator pedal went slack to the floor and the engine rpm's dropped. Stopped, coasted backward down the hill to a place I could pull off. Openned the hood. Yes, the throttle cable had pulled out of the linkage. Must have not tightened it down when putting things back together. Walked a 100 yards to a house and was able to borrow a couple of pliers to tighten things down. The other issue is the tac is starting to stick when it gets above 3,300. Other than that, car is running great. Now to enjoy the summer.

Interior Finished

Got good at taking the dashboard off and on. Had to go through that cycle a couple of times to make adjustments on control cables, installing the caps for the door weather stripping, etc. Dash was hung on the studs that follow the contour of the windshield up top without putting on the nuts. Bottom was connected with zip ties to the dash support that runs from the passenger side to the driver. This will make future dash removal much easier and seems to be sturdy. Gas gauge was adjusted on the back after the tank was filled to read full. Speakers were put in the holes PO put in the door panels. Covers up holes and provides music when not driving. (Who needs it when you are?)

How did you remove the cockpit surround? I have to replace the covering and do not know how to take it off the car.

thx

Sun Visor Repair

Mike Nyholm — Posted on The MG Experience
Monday June 8, 2009 2:03 PM
Managed to snap the plastic end to the sun visor that goes into the retaining clip on the windshield frame when I was installing the windshield. Looking closer at the end of the broken visor I noticed that the end of the plastic stud remaining in the visor had a metal collar. I dug up a bolt about the same diameter as the old plastic end, then I drilled a hole in the end of the visor in the remaining plastic that had the collar around it. The hole was drilled a little narrower than the diameter of the bolt, then I put some epoxy in the hole and screwed the bolt in. The next day I sawed off the bolt head and it made for a secure repair.
