Delay On 74B

I have encountered a slight delay in the MGB project caused by a friend offering me a 69 triumph GT6 for a very good price, if I would haul it away from the shed where it sat since 1986. I will either sell it or restore it some day but it took a lot of time to get it running just to see if the engine was solid.

Progress On 74 MGB

Having two equally bad carcasses left me with some decisions to be made. I stripped bothe the 74 and the 75 down to just the rolling chassis. I found them both needing interior panal replacement but the 74 had more rust so I first thought Iwould build up the 75. Maybe with chrome bumbers off of the 74. On closer inspection, I saw that the same panals needed replaced on both so it was going to be the same work and expense no matter which car I chose. No brainer--I went for the 74. I now have all of the necessary panels and have cut off the old rockers etc. All I need now is the time to "git er done".Going to be a fun winter.

What Have I Started

Well , a good friend from another state made me an offer that I couldn't refuse, so I sold My MGB LE. I had just been offerred a TD that is in two different barns and it has always been my dream to own and rebuild a TD. Well then there was a delay in getting the TD parts and I Was offerred two basket cases. One is a 75 and the other is a 74 chrome bumper with wire wheels (which is another of my weaknesses) Both need a lot of new structural panals replaced. Now I have acquired a Triumph GT6 at a real good price. so, lets see, I went from one midget to 5 British cars in about six weeks. I hope I live long enough to finish them all. Heck, if I could just get one good running MG I would be happy.

LUCKY BEGINNING

I was just visiting with some fellow mwmbers of HER MAJESTYS ROYAL NEBRASKA PATROL, when I mentioned that I would like to have a driveable MG of some kind while I restored my Midget. I was told that there was a "B" in the local salvage that probably just needed a new fender and hood. So I bought it and trailered it home from Lincoln NE to Marysville KS about 80 miles. I was given a good fender and bought a new hood and some paint and was soon on my way. I thought since the odometer said 80K that It was high mileage but not bad. When I recieved the title I found that it was 180K miles. But the price was right and I found that the transmission had a top fill so it must have been replaced. I have no Idea about the engine. It runs strong and uses no oil, so I say thats good enough. I have taken it to several shows (a social thing for me ) and am really enjoying driving and "WRENCHING" as much as possible.
I found a set of HIF4 carbs and manifolds at a swap meet for a cheap price and decided that I was tired of worrying about that carb setting right over the catalytic converter. The carbs were full of dirt but the shafts were tight so I rebuilt them and put them on. Before making the switch I timed the top gear accelleration from 30mph to 70mph on a level stretch of road. after the switch I found an easy 30% increase in power in that range. I thought it was a pretty good running car before, but the carb change was worth it.
