Boom Boom Boom

Killer Radio and speakers installed this week. I envision Lisa and I riding around the hills of California, white silk scarves fluttering in the wind to the sounds of Mahler! Or in grinding traffic in Pacific Beach when the occupants of some adjacent plastic Civic began to play annoying tunz- I'll slip in an MP3 disk with T.REX, SLADE or the SWEET and blow them out! He heh. It's fun to be an aging Baby Boomer in SoCal!

For the observant- after I reviewed the digipix I realized from the little extra rubber bit near the edge of the seat shoulder, that I had the door seals front to back and port and starboard backwards. I cannot over emphasize the value of a digital camera when taking LBCs apart- and ZIPLOK brand plastic bags come in huge sizes with an opaque area to write what it is and where it came from.

Old crummy steering wheel is going- got a nice one from the last years of the 1275s with the round holes machined in the spokes. Going to rework that and put on Daisy instead. God bless Ebay for ease of obtaining parts. I ditched my beloved 1975 Midget that I had in university because it was such a pain going junkyards for parts in the early 1980s. Now I point and click. I'm looking forward to the making her a daily driver and saving beaucoup on fuel. Water choke is still driving me batty- what a useless contraption.

New paint (gracias a Pepe de Advanced Auto Body de City Heights San Diego- gracias mi amigo).

New carpet, trim, new seat rebuild, gauges cleaned, dash reworked, sound proofing, wiring.

Still having problems with the dreaded "water choke". Car will start like she was made in Nagoya Japan...as long as she is cold. Warm starts? Ain't gonna happen. Next- put a manual choke in. I'm ok with the Zenith Stromberg carb but I slapped a english airspeed hi flow air filter on as soon as I could. Zoom zoom!

Daisy has a mix of black and Autumn Leaf interior- I'm working on Black Walnut door cappings. So the next big thing is to pass the smog test....here's hoping.

New brake MC, complete line flush, brakes cleaned and assorted worn bits replaced, entire interior removed, 2 surface rust areas ground and treated (Tinworm does not like the California climate thank god), electrics sorted and generally stripped out.

Oops the steering wheel is like detached

Daisy, Rose And Hyacinth:

Hyacinth is my Jag XJ8 Vanden Plas (that's Daimler 8 in the UK)
Rose is my 75 Stag- she's fast and she's a mess
Daisy is my 76 Midget.

I got Daisy on 2 February 2008. Local car- the PO wanted to sell her to someone who wouldn't break her for parts. Hmmm I still have the scars on my knuckles from fixing my from my first Midget (1974) that I owned back in the 80's so the PO knew I would fix, cherish and pour money into my LBC.

So I drive out to the suburbs of San Diego to check the car out and pay for her etc. I pull up in my Silver XJ8 VDP and the owner's Silver XJ8L is in the driveway. Adjacent in a forlorn heap was Daisy...engine in great shape but that was all. Soon the PO drove up in a MGB, we looked at the Jags and the MGs and laughed. Then he opened his garage and showed me the Triumph TR3 he's working on...and said but I have this my garage. Then I said and I have a Triumph Stag in mine.....then we really laughed!
