Project Wrap-up

OK, so it wasn't really a $98.00 paint job!

Here's what I figure it did cost.

2 quarts of PPG, DAR 81499 (pale primrose) paint
$128.20
1 pint hardner
$36.60
1 gallon reducer
$16.60
1 qt 1500 polish
$27.00
lots of sandpaper (different grits)
$50.00

hours spent stripping, priming sanding, painting
January - mid May
approx: 360

Ann usually worked on it 6 hours a day, three days a week and I helped on weekends.

materials = $258.40
labor = $??.00

All in all, it came out nice. However, lots of wet sanding between coats that probably could have been avoided had we sprayed the car.

Now we're just driving it and really enjoying the good weather.

Just a few pics of the (almost) finished "Lady Jane".

Still need to rub out a few spots and re-attach the side chrome strips, trunk emblem, etc. Then refurbish the wire wheels and on to the interior (new carpet & seat covers).

I'll summarize the project with a materials list, pitfalls we encountered, approximate hours spent and $$ rap-up.

Finally started painting Lady Jane.

Just like in the land of OZ.....

"Rub, rub here, Rub, rub there, Whether you're tin or brass
That's how we keep you in repair In the Merry Old Land of Oz!"

Little bit of wet sanding, another coat or two and then....back on the road.

I think she's ready for a topcoat. As it was fairly mild the other day, I took off the masking tape & drop cloth and tooled around my "test track". What a great feeling! Soon as it warms up, she'll get her paint (Primrose Yellow) and Spring driving is just around the corner!

Starting to see light at the end of this tunnel! Still doing the spot putty routine on a few spots that showed up after the primer. If it warms up some, we'll be able to start with the final coat in a few weeks.
