Water Blasting And POR 15 Issue

I'm a couple of entries behind so this may sound a little disjointed.
I removed the dash and all the wiring so I could get 'stuck in' with the high pressure water cleaner. This is when I found that I had a problem with the POR 15 I had used before. I fear I may have wasted my time and money on the POR 15. I had some reservations about my preparation for the POR15 after a forum member mentioned the importance of 'metal-ready'. On the advice of some others, I had simply cleaned and wirebrushed the surface and then wiped with wax and grease remover, prior to application of POR15.
When water blasting, large areas of the POR15 lifted and peeled off.
See one of the photos.
I went over the areas that I had POR15 on and tried to remove any that would come off with the blaster. Probably about 10% came off - mainly around the frame members.
I treated these with a etch rust primer, used a primer in a spray can and painted with a bitumun based chassis paint.
I've decided this is what I'm going to use in future.
I used some paint stripper on the engine bay with some success and used the water blaster to clean up the engine bay.
The priming and painting of the engine bay will be documented in the next entry.

Now Got 'water'

Haven't done any work on 'B' for a few weeks but I've spent some time getting a rainwater tank and installing it, gutters (never had them before) and a pressure pump with a piped tap outlet.
As I probably mentioned before, we're on level 4 water restrictions as of Oct' 1, which means no external use of town water.
This was restricting what I could do on the 'B' as I'm in 'full-on' dismantle and cleaning mode.
Anyway, I'm now set to go and I'm back into it now.
I removed the remaining stuff - pedal box, coil, hydrolic bits, regulator, wiring harness etc. from the engine bay and its ready to hit with some high pressure cleaning to get rid of the gunk prior to wire brushing, primeing and painting.
I plan to take out the dash, with every thing still attached so I can really go nuts with the water blaster and not damage anything.
So it's all GO, GO, GO now!

PS One small issue. Under the pedal box there is some sign of previous rust that has been 'touched up'. I'm conscious that this part needs to be firm and strong, so I will look at it carefully after cleaning up and I will probably weld a strengthening frame of some discription to the underside to make sure that it is not going to flex or fail, given that this may effect my ability to stop.

Colour Decision

Well the 'new' colour decision is starting to grow on me and thanks to the owner of the 'desired colour' MGC I have a colour and the code to be able to continue. Have changed my 'plan' (again) slightly and now intend to simply paint the engine bay, boot inside and the door trims the new colour and after assembly get the outside prep'ed and painted professionally.

Colour Of The Month.

Lots of decision making and changing has happened in the last few days.
Blue as a colour is apparently not an option. 'been overruled. The latest colour is some bland maroon deal, which I'm pretty ambivalent about. But it appears MY opinion is irrelevant.
Picked up the chain block from Graham and I'm very happy 'bout it. He suggested shortening the chains on it, which I did and I'm pleased with it. Very experienced bit of gear, but with a bit of lubrication will be great. A lot safer than the wire winch I was using.
I attacked the fuel tank again today and got the loose bit out. It's obviously a piece of baffle, but its' baffling (groan) how or why it was in there.

Decided On Colour

Have decided to change the colour to something closer to it's original colour. It's actually 'Sky Blue' but not the same as the original sky blue. I didn't really like the original colour - too light and 'washed out'. Saw this colour or similar on a forum members car and liked it. The idea of a red MG is just too stereotypical for me and I wanted something a little different but still 'right'. Had to be a solid colour NO metallic.
Cleaned up the gear hole cover and sample painted it the colour I like.
I'm ashamed to admit this but I'm going to use spray cans on the car. The colour I like is available and later I can get the out side resprayed the same colour professionally. Because the areas of the car are not large, I'm confident I can make the car look presentable at this stage. Very DPO, but...

The Flip Side.

The work on the underside continued today and that will probably the last day for some time. I'm in the second week of my mid-term break and Sharon is wanting to have me back. I got stuck into the transmission tunnel and got it cleaned and almost ready to paint. I'd been dreading this and I'm feeling pretty happy that it's almost done. Just one more wipe over with some POR15 solvent and then I can paint it grey as well.
I came across some rather big 'dings' in the tunnel and I suspect that something has at one stage hit pretty hard from underneath. Possibly a rock are maybe the tail shaft has come loose at some stage.
One thing I have noticed - The floor pans have been attached with braze. I don't think this would be original so does that mean that the pans are the second lot in there?
