Novelty!

Well here goes with my attempt at a journal, I somehow think that Silence Dogood would have done a better job, oh for an aetherscriber!
Anyway, down to business, since aquiring my first little British car, as opposed to my other big British cars, things have been progressing better than I dared to expect! The initial wiring nightmares turned out to be rather simple to rectify once I realised that an American tech had been working on it previously...... no disrespect to his efforts, but his results would have been better and certainly with less smoke and flames if he had only realised that in my home country.... brown wires are live not grounds! Still, my little car is a factory reject built on a Friday.... someone put the steering wheel and pedals on the passenger side on the left! Still, many things are different here in the colonies!
The interior had been completely gutted with the exception of the remains of the seat frames and badly cracked dash, more on that later! I duly made all new panels using water resistant hardboard/panel board after making templates from old beer boxes! Talk about on a budget! lol
I then proceded to apply foam 'batting' to these panels then covering with a decent quality black vinyl. To be honest I was quite amazed at just how well these have all turned out! It looks great in there, enough to spur me on to make all new carpets with material supplied by Kragen/O'reilly of Yucca Valley, special thanks to Jess and Alan and all of their staff!
Tonight, 01/18/2010, I started on the badly cracked dash. Having done research on the web I found a site referring to a chap who had some great results with his Alfa Romeo dash using just body filler and spray on truck bed liner! Sounds like a guy from the same mould as I so I thought I would try! After all, if I mess it up beyond all repair I can cough up the cash and by one from VB! Lets hope that my enthusiasm meets success at the cost of less than $20 from the local Wal-Mart! More on my next entry with pics to support and maybe help others!
God bless you all and your families.
