I have always wanted to restore an old car, but was never sure what kind until I came across the MGA. I had never heard of them, only MGBs, and immediately fell in love with the looks. I soon found one for sale on Craigslist in Spokane, Washington and made some inquiries. It turned out the seller had purchased it some 12 years ago, intending to fix it as a present up for his daughter's college graduation. As he put it, "Neither one happened," so his wife wanted it out of the yard. I towed it home and am in the process of restoring it as a 50th birthday present for my wife (although it will be a belated gift).

Nearly Completed Frame

The frame is almost complete, the only thing left to do is to install the exhaust system and floorboards. I have finished the seats, heater assembly, wiper motor, radiator and have purchased a new master cylinder. Now waiting on the body shop and hope to have the body and frame reunited by the end of the year.

Completed Engine

I have made a lot of progress since last April. I finally came up with the money to get the body work done, so things are once again moving along. * Pulled the body off and got started on restoring the frame. Found it in excellent shape with only a little weld repair needed on the floorboard mounts and one of the battery trays (DPO cut off the back of the right tray). * Had the grill frame, windshield frame and defroster vent rechromed. * Waiting on the glass and one more frame piece to put t...

Unfortunately, the quote from my local British car shop was out of my budget. Adding to that, I lost my workspace (a rented garage at a friend of my brother's), so I have made no progress on the car itself since my last update. On the plus side, the engine has been completely rebuilt and the engine/transmission are both ready to drop in as soon as I have something to drop it into.

Sills finished

Door sills and posts are finished but repairs to the fender doglegs have stalled out. To date, I have been able to work with a cheap Century welder, but after purchasing a brand new Miller-matic I found the problem was with my welding skills. Yesterday I towed the car to a local shop and am having them give me a quote to do the finish body work and primer it. Depending on the cost, I may also have them paint it. I dropped the engine off at the mechanic's and with any luck I'll have the chassi...
