Here's the story: New needles, valves, seats, adjusted floats, cleaned carbs, and we're back in business. I think. Still need to take it for the test drive and test restart after getting hot but I have to replace the fuel line first. Keep your fingers crossed!

So just when things are really going well... Since that timing adjustment, I've been driving the PITA all over the place and having a great time of it. It's so great to have actual power again! Then, about two weeks ago, I took the car for a drive. I drove about 6 miles to my destinate, parked for about 30 minutes to an hour, then drove 6 miles home. The Loveable PITA on the Rims above Billings MT

L. helped me adjust the timing about three weeks ago and that changed everything. It appeared to be about 10 degrees off, which is very strange. What could possibly make the timing slip that much? Since then I've been driving the car every chance I get and it's pure fun. I love it! Sadly, it started backfiring yesterday. After a hard start where I think I gave it a little too much gas starting up, it coughed and sputtered before revving strong, then as I drove it would backfire when shifting...

Master mechanic and engine rebuilder dad visited today. We found the brake fluid reservoir empty; the brakes came back when we filled it so for now we'll watch and see if we can figure out where the leak is before ordering new parts. As for the power issue, he couldn't diagnose it exactly. Next visit he'll bring his compression gauge and timing light so we can check those things. We also found a missing vacuum tube -- he thinks it's supposed to ventilate the crankcase. Perhaps that contribut...
