One of two things:
1) If the Igntion switch is broken such that it does not turn off
2) Somewhere there is a short between the "always live" 12 V and the switched 12 V , such that even when the ignition switch is OFF the white wire still has 12 V on it.

With the Ign switch in the OFF position, pull the white wire off the ignition switch and test with a voltmeter or test light. See if there is 12 V on the white wire even when it is disconnected from the gnition switch. If it has 12 V, you need to find how / where it is getting there.

If it does not have 12 V then test the terminal on the switch where the white wire had been connected. If it has 12 V , it seems to me the switch is broken

Re: Thickness of radiator

Yes, you could probably put a bit wider, and a bit thinner radiator in an MGB.

The issue is not the thickness of the radiator, it is the amount of area that is available to receive cooler outside air.

Most modern cars have a wider radiator(s) cooling the engine coolant, condensing the A/C refrigerant, and cooling the power steering and automatic transmission.

Another point. MGBs were designed in "cool" England. Today, cars are sold all over the world. Nobody in their right mind would try to sell cars in the Arab countries that didn't keep the cabin cool and the engine temperatures low enough to avoid problems. Yes, today's engines run hotter than the older ones. Who knows what the temperatures are on Direct Injection engines, that are already in the show rooms.

Look at the air inlet sizes on the very latest cars. They are very large. Today, the auto industry is using the analytical tools that were available 50 years ago in the space programs; but, the computer time costs were orders of magnitude higher in those years. Now a high end desktop has more capability than a warehouse full of main frames from 50 years ago.

If you're cranking the engine with the battery, forget the bad battery.

Pull off fuel line, crank with line in bottle, look for one pint in thirty seconds. If so, pump is good.

Look at gas. Let it sit a while. See water separation? Bad gas. Smell OK? How old is it?

Pull plug wire, insert spark plug, set against block. Crank and look for fat blue spark?

Get back to us with that, and we can get ya there!

Side note - the battery kill switch is to prevent fires, and theft. If it goes bad, no crank condition can occur. Not the problem here.

Tom, and everyone, thanks, and I will look foward to pictures.

Dick Luening ran this car with the oil cooler in the original position in front of the rad, to no apparent ill effect, so I am not so concerned about cooling, especially since a sealed chamber will direct more air there than before. And yes, because I am fabricating the valence I can make it flatter and deeper than many on the market, as John Targett does with his English artisan-made aluminum ones and many do in the UK within the vintage idiom.

I am more interested in whether it is better to put the cooler in the bottom center of the valence to relieve pressure, ---how much pressure would a hole with an oil cooler jammed in it really relieve?---or to leave it sealed there and let air flow around--OK--and, inevitably, down the face and underneath---not OK. To at least partly deal with air rolling underneath I could then attach a panel behind the valence and perpendicular to it to direct flow to the sides or under the crossmember, as I have seen Prather and others like Munoz do.

I would call it a Happy Panel, in anticipation of the good Hapster's certain dislike of the idea B-)

Unfortunately Roger Penske borrowed my wind tunnel and has conveniently forgotten to return it, so who knows.

If relief of pressure is the main god to be served by a valence hole, and if oil cooler location is not so critical, better to put two brake cooling ducts in the center which direct the flow to the sides ; which, oddly enough, is exactly what Dick Luening did on my car. That would relieve more pressure than a hole with a cooler stuffed in it. Hmmmmmmm.

Nice looking instalation, Ron. (Too bad you didn't still have it when I visited. Would have liked to have looked at it myself.)

Nice to see that one can find enough room for the condenser and still use the original fan. Had a chance at an MGB A/C unit years ago but passed on it because I wasn't sure I could get it to fit. And I was concerned about the weight in the nose on a car I was driving for sport.

But note: Fitting the A/C condenser in front of the radiator will make no difference if it is on a manual car or an optional automatic. The stacked oil/transmision coolers occupy the same space as the single oil cooler.

The lower radiator panel is at an angle and of complex shape so hanging anything under it is a problem on the MGC. And using the '74 valence with the holes in it will compromise the cooling of the radiator if other changes are not made.

However, Mike Hirschman's car uses an A/C condenser that is mounted behind a vented valence with separate electric cooling fans.

C Ya,
