"Cecil"

Great California car. I drove it daily until 2nd gear failed in spring of '05. BRG repaint is off a little. In line for restoration.

I've added some new pictures, showing removed engine and transmission. Removal of this monster engine was intimidating but in fact it was not as difficult as it was frightening. It does take a lot more fiddling, than does a four-cylinder, to prepare for removal. I wouldn't try it without a tilt device on the engine crane.

In February of 2008, I rebuilt the transmission at John Twist's gearbox seminar. Lot's of fun, and the transmission now works great!

I got it back together in September of 2008. Especially thanks to the new distributor from Jeff Schlemmer, it runs GREAT! But although I replaced the (leaking) rear brake cylinders, I still have yet to make it STOP like it should. Looks like I need to rebuild the master cylinder. Also, it's leaking oil through the modern oil filter conversion set-up I put on it. May have to go back to the original oil filter set-up. I have a spare 3.7 rear end in a shop in Detroit (as of 15 April, 2009) and a 3.07 CW&P awaiting pick-up from friends in Sarnia Ontario. Once I get the CW&P properly across the border and to the shop in Detroit, I'll be much closer to making a fantastic long-legged cruiser out of this car. My wife, still dubious, will LOVE it. That is, as soon as I add A/C! Eventually, this car is going to see a LOT of use. Restoration will have to come a lot later. It's a passable driver as is, but cars in much greater need will have priority in my restoration schedule. In the meantime, we're gonna LOVE driving this baby!

January 24, 2010: The new 3.07 rear end went in the car last summer and for a few days I got the brakes feeling great. ' Even thought I'd fixed the problem, but no. At any rate, while the brakes were still feeling good, even with the leaking oil filter head, I got a great test-drive out of it. The 3.07 was done for me by John Coleman of Downriver Sports Car Service in Detroit, and he did a fabulous job. It's the quietest MG rear end I've ever encountered. Even with the high ratio, the car still accelerates very briskly, and (thanks to Jeff Schlemmer) revs spontaneously. With Jeff's distributor and the 3.07, the car accelerates much better than it did with the pre-Schlemmer dizzy and the 3.7. I'm busy with the Magnette these days, but look forward to getting back on this car. ' Wanna get some fair-weather daily-driving and a lot of show trips out of it!
