This car was originally supplied by University Motors in London and was first registered in April 1955. I have no other details of its early history and on the V5C it states that the car has had six previous owners.

I gather from MOTs and expired tax disc that it has been off the road since about March 2001 and the last owner sold it to a classic car dealer in 2004. The dealer stored the car, in a partially dismantled state and did nothing with it until I bought it in the summer of 2008.

Since then it has been at the restorers and it is now nearing completion. There was very little corrosion in the body but it was looking very tired. It has been resprayed Old English White and the engine has been serviced including a carb rebuild.

The restoration is nearing completion, all the interior wood has been restained and refitted. The car now has a new 'MG' branded radio/cassette player, cream leather seats from a Rover 45 plus new carpet, headlining, door cards and parcel shelf which have all been hand-made for this vehicle. New stainless steel bumpers, P700 headlights, Lucas rear lights, sidelights and indicators have been fitted. Subtle modern touches include an electric aerial and high-level brake light.

My Magnette now has an MOT and is taxed and insured. However it has been plagued with a series of overheating issues which have proved difficult to solve. See post entitled 'Magnette Overheating woes'.
