Viewing Greg Deyo's 1974 Triumph Spitfire (SHESGONE)

I came across this Spitfire that had been sitting in a damp garage since 1979. The former owner decided the engine and transmission needed rebuilding and removed them even though there were only 60174 miles on the car. He also stripped off all the trim, mirrors, lights, etc... and threw them in the boot. There it sat for 21 years until he had the upholstery redone. The new upholstery never saw the light of day. Seven years later I bought the car sight unseen for $500. I was kind of worried, but as it turns out I needn't have been. The tires still had air in them. There was no rust and no dents. The paint was terrible and it was mouse chewed, but the frame is still painted blue and is clean. The floorboards are solid, the bonnet is solid, the battery box and firewall have surface rust and paint flaking only. There is minor surface rust where the mirrors were removed. What I thought was going to be a complete restoration is only going to be an interior redo, paint and motor reseal. How lucky can a guy get? I get the car I always wanted at a steal of a price, and it is a gem. All I have to do is polish it.

Greg,
Impressive restoration photos. Did you have to rebuild the engine? If so, how was that process? It sounds like you got the diamond in the rough.
