Get the correct battery.
One of my pet peeves is wrong batteries and inadequate security for them.
Get the right battery and engineer a VERY secure hold down system for it. Having a battery bounce around reduces it's life and there is always a danger of sudden discharge, read explosion, if the positive terminal comes in contact with the car body. A rough road will do that, but a crash is nearly guaranteed to.

example 26 or 26R the R means that the terminals are switched. I am going off memory here so check me. A group 26 will have the pos on left and neg on right a group 26R will have the neg on left and pos on right.

Lee is correct on the 26 having a Left Hand Positive top post configuration; 26R has a Right Hand Positive top post configuration.
However, another battery may also have a Right Hand Positive top post configuration without the R designation. The R isn't universally applied across the BCI specifications.
Put the battery in front of you with the terminals furthest from you. A right hand positive battery has the positive terminal on the right.

I just bought a 26 to replace a 24 that the PO had in the box, unsecured. I didn't realize until I got home that the posts on the 24 were opposite of the 26. I was installing a cutoff switch anyway so I just had new cables made up.
Now I have the correct, secured battery, a cut off switch and new cables. Now if I vcan just get my backup lights to work!! (separate thread).
Anyone want a good group 24 battery?
