Hi Robert,
I use Lant. Full agreed coverage at $13,500 for $153. Sure, there are some restrictions: car has to be a second insured vehicle and 25 years old, you (and other drivers) must have 10 years driving experience, can't drive it to work or take it "shopping", but I think that's it (hope I got it all right). For the price and the type of coverage I can put up with these limitations and drive as much as I want to, when I want to - which is what I want to do anyway.
You live in a pretty area - I grew up there.
All the best, Marsh

I've just spent some time looking into insurance because mine is due at the beginning of May.
Hagerty has just started selling insurance in Canada. They don't require an appraisal, just photos, and allow 5700 km/y of pleasure use. Hagerty emphasizes pleasure use, not just club related like some do. Vacation is pleasure to Hagerty. You can also buy roadside insurance for $110/yr which covers all your vehicles. A car valued at $8000 is about $140/year.
I think Lants has a milage restriction of around 3000 km/y and aren't really keen on pleasure use and certainly not vacation; prefer club activities.
Impact, who I presently use, costs about the same as Hagerty and have a milage limit of 2000 km.
Echelon seems to be the cheapest with a 5000 km/y milage limit. "Occasional" pleasure use is permitted. $110 for a $8000 vehicle.

True, Hagerty just came in to Ontario and does not need an appraisal BUT they charge a $40/yr policy fee so after 4 years you are going to pay more.
Both products are underwritten by Aviva.
Silver Wheels and Hagerty are essentially the same insurance product underwritten by the same insurance company.
One is sold through Lant - with an Appraisal.
One is sold through any Insurance Broker who handles Aviva - no appraisal... but a $40 fee.
You choose.
I am with Lant. They do not restrict you to driving only to special events..... that might be if you have HISTORICAL PLATES on the car. Marshall has it about right.

Just finished reading the restrictions on their website.
It's a hard decision because I enjoy just driving the car; club events are a small portion of my driving. I guess I should just pay the extra for insurance that best depicts the type of driving I like to do and that way if I am in an accident I don't have to worry if I was using my vehicle in a manner the insurance company would disagree with.

I looked at the different styles of insurance available. I also looked at registering the car under the historic vehicle classification here in NS. Just way too many restrictions. Couldn't even take the car on vacation.
I registered and insured my car as a regular, every day vehicle. I like my car too much to let it sit in the garage just because I was too cheap to pay for insurance.
Refer to my thoughts on "spend some now and have fun, or be a tightwad and die rich."

We use Echelon. http://www.echelon-insurance.ca/collector_car.php for the '71 and will for the GT as well. $100.00 per year with a $6,000.00 value put on the car with no appraisal needed. Some restrictions but no limit on mileage driven.

I am now with Echelon, $150 yr for $13,000 covg, I was with ING but my broker just switched me to Echelon, as restricions are less. as Paul said some restrictions but nothing major.
Just always remember, should anything ever happen "you were on your way to your mechanic"

Bob:
I went with the same people who insure the rest of the fleet. I never liked the restrictions on shopping and work use. Just my luck the car would be damaged in one of those spots!
I think it cost me $500/year and they refund a part of that when it comes off the road for the winter. I required an appraisal to get the agreed value. Word of advice, these appraisers are pretty flexible and tend to follow your lead when it comes to setting the agreed value. While your ego might like to say the car is worth 20k, your insurance company is going to flag you and charge more for anything above a market norm.

Interesting post. My renewal policy is sitting on the desk right in front of me now. I am paying about $400. for each of the BGT and the CGT with $10,000. values. No appraisals. Also not limited to just club events. I am not sure about a mileage limitation but it is something I am going to ask about now. This policy is with The Guarantee Company of North America.
