Now I am confused, has a conclusion come up as to which of the two are the best to use? I emailed Bruce at suspension.com with some questions and he responded back that they tend to recommend the black because there have been reports that the red lead to a squeaky suspension after a few miles.
I am ready to order the red but now I am confused, should I just get a set of the black ones and go with it?

I have red, on sub-freezing days they can squeak a little, other that that they are wonderful. Lube the heck out of them when you install and they shouldn't squeak.

Michelle,
At another bushing site they claim there is nor difference between the red and black. But this is from the suspension.com web site:
Q. Do all of the Energy Suspension polyurethane bushings contain 'graphite' to stop squeaks?
A. No, only the BLACK polyurethane bushings can contain 'graphite'. If graphite was used in the red, yellow or blue bushings it would make them gray in color. Graphite is included in the black bushings to help with the squeak problem that urethane can have. The newest 'Hyper flex' formula is designed to decrease the possibility of squeaks even further. Strut rod bushings, body mounts and motor mounts do not use graphite, because they are a compression type bushing and the graphite would affect the bushings ability to rebound when compressed, and compression type bushings do not squeak.
It makes sense, it would be hard to put graphite into anything and not have it affect the color.
If they are the same hardness.... then I would order the black.
Steve

I have the red bushings on my 75 and I am currently in the process of putting the red poly bushings on my 73. The 75 did squeak a bit on the left front but it went away after a bit. The 73 which I'm a little over half done I'm greasing the ever living snot out of the bushings. The amount of lube they give you in the package is not enough and I ended up buying a tube of poly bushing grease. These should not squeak for a very long time.

If your talking about the Moss bushings, the black urethane ones are supposed to be a little softer than the red ones. They are meant to be equivalent to the standered rubber ones, but last a heck of a lot longer. Haven't tried them yet, but I am restoring one now that will get them, maybe then I'll have some comparison to go by.

I had to mail order it and its not the cheapest stuff but I think 3 oz is enough to do at least 5 suspension rebuilds. Lubrathane by daystar. Its identical in looks and feel to the grease in little tubes they give you.

I've got the blue bushes.
After three years of no squeeks, I didn't drive it for a while, and we had a sudden cold snap, squeeks galore!
I put grease in the sides of the bushes, front and back, the round bit where the washers contact, and where the shock absorber arms contact and the inside of the stainless centre tube. Fixed it perfectly.
I did not put grease on the working surfaces. The outside and inside of the poly tube as it were.
No ill effects I can see.
